What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments
Your personal data is collected on this blog only when you choose to make a comment, for the purpose of your comment being posted publicly on the site. The data collected includes email address and IP address.
If you comment, your email address and IP address will be shared with WordPress to allow for moderation. Your email and IP will be visible to this site’s administrators when reviewing comments. Your data will also be shared with the spam blocker Akismet, a WordPress plug-in for WordPress blogs, for comparison with a list of known spam sources; spam comments are transferred to a spam file and deleted in batches by the site admin. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. Contact forms
We use the Contact Form 7 plugin to manage contact form submissions. The information is sent as email messages that only the site administrators are allowed to access. The information is also stored in the database on our hosting server for backup and later reference purposes. We use the Flamingo plugin to safely manage this data. Contact form submission data — IP address, user agent, name, email address, and message — is submitted to the Akismet service for the sole purpose of spam checking.
Blog Subscriptions
To initiate and process subscriptions, the following information is used: subscriber’s email address and the ID of the post or comment (depending on the specific subscription being processed). In the event of a new subscription being initiated, we also collect some basic server data, including all of the subscribing user’s HTTP request headers, the IP address from which the subscribing user is viewing the page, and the URI which was given in order to access the page (REQUEST_URI and DOCUMENT_URI). This server data is used for the exclusive purpose of monitoring and preventing abuse and spam.

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns.
