Solar Eclipse in Libra: October 2 2024 Astrology Forecast (written)

Due to disruption from Hurricane Helene, I haven’t had time to do my full half-month forecast yet. However, it feels important to publish this standalone Solar Eclipse forecast. It’s October’s most important astrology event, and is happening today (October 2)!

As of October 1 …

The Moon is waning (there was a Pisces Lunar Eclipse on 9/17).

Pluto is retrograde thru 10/11.
Saturn is retrograde thru 11/15.
Neptune is retrograde thru 12/7.
Chiron is retrograde thru 12/29.
Uranus is retrograde thru 1/30.

The once-in-a-lifetime Uranus-Neptune-Pluto Mini Grand Trine continues thru 9/6/2029

Solar Eclipse

An annular solar eclipse happens at 2:49 pm EDT (10°3′ Libra).

Astronomy

Those in prime viewing locations will see the Sun as a ring of light (the “antumbra”). However, this ring will only be visible from Easter Island, a small area near the southern tips of Argentina and Chile, and the north of the Falkland Islands. The only other ideal viewing locations will be out to sea on the Pacific Ocean.

As a Libra New Moon

Fortunately, you won’t need a great view to work with this eclipse’s life-affirming opportunities. Let’s start with the basics, considering this lunation as a Libra New Moon.

Any Libra New Moon is great for new beginnings in relationships. You can make new connections or pour fresh energy into existing relationships of all kinds.

You have a similar opportunity with your creative projects. This New Moon is great for starting something new or energizing artistic projects you’ve already started. Libra energy also supports creating any kind of beauty in your personal life and environment, as well as appreciating the creativity of others.

Because this is a solar eclipse, its effects will be significantly stronger than a normal New Moon. They’ll also last longer. While the effects of a New or Full Moon last two weeks, eclipse energies endure for at least six months!

Aspects

This solar eclipse contains three aspect patterns: two T-Squares and a Thor’s Hammer. But, since I feel all the aspects working as a team, I’ll interpret them together.

The Lunar Nodes

For starters, the Sun and Moon are only about three and a half degrees from the South Node. This is a tight conjunction which strengthens the eclipse effects.

The South Node represents the talents and abilities you develop during your lifetime, as well as trauma your soul hopes to heal during this incarnation. Either or both of these “buckets” could be catalyzed by this eclipse.

The luminaries are also opposite the North Node. This “destiny point” encourages you to align your intentions and actions with your life purpose.

Tight Mercury Conjunction

This eclipse’s strongest aspect is a tight conjunction with Mercury, just one and a half degrees from the luminaries. This opens enhanced opportunities to learn, write, teach, or communicate. Engage your brain!

Mercury’s placement in Libra specifically supports creative writing and harmonious communication.

Uranus Sesquare

Another important eclipse aspect is a tight Uranus sesquare. This 135° minor hard aspect is also called a sesquiquadrate or sesqisquare. (Try saying all those aspect names three times fast!)

As the only outer planet aspecting this eclipse, Uranus wields outsized influence. He encourages you to embrace your authentic self internally, then express it to the outer world to the greatest extent that serves highest good.

Uranus also rules intuitive hits. These pop in from your higher self, and are the most accurate and helpful guidance a human can get! Finally, serve others with your special talents and abilities you most love to use.

Uranus can bring sudden and unexpected paradigm shifts. These can improve your life in surprising ways if you work with them skillfully. Uranus rules everything that’s unconventional and cutting edge. Seriously consider outside-the-box possibilities, even if they seem radical at first.

Relationships: Juno and Venus

Relationships are usually the first Libra keyword people think of. This theme gets additional reinforcement from two other planets.

First, we have a loose conjunction joining the luminaries and Juno. She’s the asteroid goddess who rules all types of committed partnership.

The second relational aspect is a strong semi-sextile with Venus. She rules Libra, and also has “relationship” as her most common keyword.

Three Relationship Buckets

Given the strength of this theme, you might find it helpful to imagine your relationships in three buckets.

Start with the relationships that are obviously supportive and positive. Is this a good time to take any of them deeper, or expand them in appropriate ways?

Toxic relationships are on the other end of the spectrum. Is this a good time to completely cut off contact with overwhelmingly negative people? Or can you at least minimize contact?

Finally, there are “mixed bag” relationships. You never know whether they’re going to make you feel great or turn into a train wreck!

I’ve done over 10,000 client sessions as an astrologer, shamanic healer, and life coach. After hearing so many people tell me about their relationships, I’ve concluded that the more of the following four factors are present, the greater your chances of harmonizing a challenging relationship:

• Both people have a strong desire to heal the relationship.
• You’re using a formal relationship healing method with a proven track record when needed. (My favorite is Nonviolent Communication.)
• Both people take responsibility for their own emotions. They understand that the other person can only act as a catalyst, and can’t force them to feel a certain way.
• Each person is actively doing their own emotional healing work outside the relationship container. They might be working with a therapist or healing practitioner, or might be using a fast and easy DIY tool such as my free Healing Invocation.

Trying to harmonize one of these mixed bag relationships can take a lot of time and energy. Make sure there’s a good chance of a positive outcome!

Other Aspects

A tight Ceres square might stir up some trauma, so have your shadow work techniques ready. As the grain goddess, Ceres also supports harvest and abundance. (Venus can also help support prosperity, since she rules money.)

A moderately strong Pallas Athena sextile can help you implement effective strategies and act with feminine assertiveness. This asteroid goddess can also help you be an effective mediator, diplomat, or negotiator.

Finally, a medium strength Mars square can energize all your New Moon aspirations. His energy, which naturally complements Libra, can also help you act as a warrior, pioneer, sexual being, or entrepreneur.
