Venus turns direct this week, green-lighting new action in relationships, finances and creativity. A New Moon in Aquarius encourages enhanced authenticity and humanitarianism. And a multi-month Jupiter-Pluto opposition offers empowerment of spirituality, learning and much more!
Juno‘s themes of peace, fertility and committed relationships are strongly empowered by a sextile from Pluto. This is a good time to undertake deeper understanding and transformation in these areas.
What wounds are you carrying in the areas of feminine assertiveness or strategic cunning? They could be triggered by the opposition of Pallas Athena and Chiron. Seeking mentoring or healing in these areas — or providing it to others – is timely.
Juno, already juiced up by yesterday’s sextile from Pluto, today receives a trine from Jupiter. This further amps up her core themes of peace, fertility and committed relationships. The Jupiter trine also flows in a healthy dose of optimism, hope and joy!
It’s a great time to embody your authentic weird-ass self as the Aquarian Sun sextiles Uranus. Both Aquarius and Uranus share the same meanings, which include originality, bizarreness and humanitarian service. Let your freak flag fly!
January’s second New Moon (4:39 PM, 10°55′ Aquarius) is nowhere near as powerful as the New Moon that rocked New Year’s Day. But this Aquarian New Moon nevertheless marks a great time to start or re-energize expressing your authentic self and following your intuitive flashes. It also supports sharing your unique genius with the world and using your special talents for the good of the collective.
This New Moon’s strongest aspect is a sextile from Uranus. Since Uranus and Aquarius are part of the same character in the astrology alphabet, this aspect simply reinforces this New Moon’s core Aquarian themes.
I’ve written a lot in recent forecasts about the Mystic Rectangle that includes Juno, Pallas Athena, Jupiter, Chiron and Pluto. This New Moon lands in the middle of one of the sextiles that make up this aspect pattern. The Moon and Sun make semi-sextiles to Pluto on one side and Juno and Chiron on the other. Quincunxes to Pallas Athena and Jupiter complete this lunation’s aspects to the Mystic Rectangle.
All of this lunation’s aspects to members of the Mystic Rectangle are minor hard aspects, so some level of challenge may arise. The most important themes stimulated by the individual aspects include transformation and release (Pluto), healing (Chiron), and maintaining a sense of hope and optimism in the midst of it all (Jupiter). The overall meaning of the Mystic Rectangle is also reinvogorated by this New Moon.
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is, “During a silent hour, a man receives a new inspiration which may change his life.” This perfectly fits the Aquarian themes of intuitive flashes and sudden change. Perhaps, if you’re willing to create a silent hour for yourself and pray for such an inspiration, you’ll be blessed with one too!
Jupiter Opposes Pluto
You’ll be strongly feeling the effects of today’s Jupiter-Pluto opposition for over three months. Consciously employing this powerful aspect can reap you many benefits through May 9!
The Naked Planets
Let’s start by considering just the naked planets. Jupiter represents higher education, foreign cultures, religion, philosophy and the meaning of life. It also naturally radiates hope, joy, enthusiasm and celebration. All of these themes receive empowerment from the abundant power of Pluto.
Jupiter’s less desirable qualities can include dogmatism, imposing your beliefs on others, over-expansion and naive optimism. Focusing on Jupiter’s more positive expressions will leave less energy for these negative phenomena to arise.
Jupiter’s nature is to amplify whatever it influences. So it energizes Pluto’s natural drive to release whatever has outlived its usefulness, stimulate profound transformation, and dive into the mysterious depths. Mystical and occult practices, as well as investigation, detective work and sacred sexuality are also revved up.
Pluto’s darker expressions can include dominating others, obsessive-compulsive behavior, volcanic rage and wanting to destroy that which remains useful. Again, focusing on any planet’s more positive expressions reorients it in that direction. Energy follows intention!
Adding the Signs
With Jupiter in Cancer, positive changes in family dynamics are supported. Even long-standing family issues could be healed if those involved are willing to engage in open, honest and vulnerable sharing. With Pluto in Capricorn, good fortune and expanded energy can be brought into business matters or any important life structure.
Finally, a word about the 180° opposition that links Jupiter and Pluto. While this is considered a hard aspect, it does not have to represent conflict. Imagine that you are facing a good friend and having a harmonious conversation. If you were two planets in a horoscope, the two of you would be forming an opposition.
So while conflict is one possibility of an opposition, this aspect is fundamentally about relating. Whether the interaction is harmonious or challenging is up to the parties involved.
Venus Turns Direct
Venus, which went retrograde on 12/21, turns direct today at 3:49 PM. Since her retrograde was to be entirely in Capricorn, my advice on 12/21 was to reflect on how to take practical, real-world steps to improve your relationships, finances and creativity. If you’ve been doing so, it’s now time to begin implementing the insights that you gained.
Mercury makes a hesitant entry into Pisces today, turns retrograde on 2/6, then retreats back into Aquarius on 2/12. The more you create receptive space in your life, the more Piscean Mercury can help you be more open to intuitive guidance and creative inspiration.
Intuitive flashes could be ping-ponging all over the place with the Aquarian Sun quincunx Jupiter. Enjoy the extra energy provided by this aspect, but be careful not to overdo it!
Lunar conjunctions to Neptune (around 5:30 AM) and Chiron (around 5:15 PM) in Pisces make this a lovely day for inspired meditation, creativity, healing and mentoring.
No major astrology events.
It’s best to avoid starting important new projects or making major purchases during void-of-course Moons. “Business as usual” is the optimal strategy. Void-of-course Moons occur when the Moon has made her last major Ptolemaic aspect, but has not yet moved into her next sign.
