The Story So Far
As November opens, we have three retrograde planets: Neptune thru 11/16, Chiron thru 11/23 and Uranus thru 12/21. And the pervasive energies of revolutionary transformation (a Uranus-Pluto square), as well as universal love, compassion and spiritual awakening (Neptune in Pisces), remain powerful for years to come!
Concise Overview
This section contains brief forecasts for the most important astrological events in November and December. Be sure to also check out the forecasts in my semimonthly email newsletter, which go into much greater detail!
Yod: Juno-Chiron-Pluto
Committed relationships of all kinds, romantic or platonic, may be feeling extra stress due to a Yod involving Juno, Chiron and Pluto. This aspect pattern starts 11/5, peaks 11/11 and ends 11/19.
Courageously focusing on release and transformation can bring healing to the root cause of the conflict. If the relationship is meant to continue, this can give it a more solid foundation moving forward.
Taurus Full Moon
November’s Full Moon illuminates the sky on 11/6 at 5:23 PM EST (14°25′ Taurus). How are things going for you in the areas of sensual enjoyment, earned income, persistence, and “just being”? Take stock and make adjustments as appropriate.
Aspects
This lunation’s aspects suggest taking a good look at the state of your relationships, especially committed ones. Healing, release and transformation in all areas of life are smoothly supported. And be attentive to any intuitive flashes you receive, especially if they show how to be your more authentic self or contribute to the greater good.
Sabian Symbol
This Full Moon’s Sabian Symbol is, “A man with a silk hat, muffled against the cold, braves a storm.” While this image unmistakably speaks of adversity, it also shows readiness for whatever challenges may come.
These days, it seems that we’re all facing challenges of one kind or another. This symbol reminds us that, with courage and mindful preparation, we can master whatever situation may present itself.
Potentially volatile energies are in the air 11/4-17 (peaking 11/10), generated by a Mars-Pluto conjunction (11°35′ Capricorn). This aspect’s dark side expressions can include uncontrolled sexuality, hair-trigger anger or impulsive violence. Focus instead on high side expressions such as positive passionate action, sacred sexual union and Energizer Bunny productivity. As always, let your intuitive flashes guide you!
The Sun enters Sagittarius on 11/22 at 4:39 AM EST. In the sign of the archer, Old Sol radiates hope, joy, enthusiasm and celebration. Supported themes include philosophy, religion, higher education and learning from the wisdom of foreign cultures.
Sagittarius New Moon
November’s New Moon occurs less than three hours after the Sun enters Sagittarius! It lines up on 11/22 at 7:33 AM EST (0°7′ Sagittarius). New beginnings in the Sagittarian themes detailed in the prior paragraph are supported.
Aspects
This lunation’s aspects suggest that, while roadblocks may be encountered, they can be overcome with discipline and perseverance (tight Saturn conjunction). Newly expansive energy in relationships and creativity is available (loose Venus conjunction), as well as in learning, communication and writing (wide Mercury conjunction).
With Neptune square this lunation, some may be tempted to overindulge in intoxicating substances or escapism during this New Moon period. If only they knew how easy it is to call in even more amazing states of bliss and ecstasy from their own divine source, with no hangover the next day! (This Core Invocation might help you experience this.)
Sabian Symbol
This lunation’s Sabian Symbol is, “Retired army veterans gather to reawaken old memories.” Most people would envision this scene as a casual social gathering. While such an event might create nurturing social bonds, my recent experiences with healing breathwork leads me to imagine a different scenario.
What if these veterans were gathering to heal the psychological wounds they incurred during their military service using holotropic breathwork, or some other intense healing modality that could rapidly resolve their unresolved battle trauma? If some of the old memories being reawakened are painful, why not take the opportunity to heal them?
The Sabian Symbol can be broadened to include everyone, since we’ve all experienced some level of psychological trauma in our lives. When would it be appropriate for you to gather with others who’ve been similarly wounded, so that you can be freed from the constructing effects of your past traumas?
Maintain the status quo or try something new? This fundamental choice may come up for you repeatedly 11/12 through 12/29, peaking 12/3. (Saturn-Uranus sesquiquadrate, 27°42′ Scorpio-12°42′ Aries). If in doubt, contemplate one of my favorite mottos – “it always gets better than this!” Following your intuitive flashes, as well as taking a focused, disciplined approach toward transformation, can help it arrive more smoothly.
Gemini Full Moon
December’s Full Moon shines forth on 12/6 at 7:27 AM EST (14°17′ Gemini). Are any adjustments needed in how you’re learning and communicating? Are you experiencing enough diversity and taking an appropriately lighthearted approach to life?
Aspects
This lunation’s aspects support expanding your field of knowledge or communicating your message more broadly (very tight Mercury opposition). Consider seeking mentoring in any areas where you feel challenged (very tight Chiron square).
With a tight Uranus sextile, an unconventional approach to a familiar situation may yield a better outcome. And, with a Pluto quincunx, be sure to make whatever adjustments are needed to allow positive transformation to work its magic!
Sabian Symbol
This lunation’s Sabian Symbol is, “Two Dutch children talking and studying their lessons together.” According to UNICEF’s most recent Child Well-Being in Rich Countries survey, Dutch kids ranked as the happiest kids in the world. So this symbol suggests that you bring harmony and happiness into your own learning and communication. (Gemini at its finest!)
Uranus-Pluto Square #6
If the 2010s are defined by one astrological aspect, it’s the Uranus-Pluto square (12°35′ Aries-12°35′ Capricorn) that has its sixth exact iteration on 12/15. These planets’ final exact 90° connection will be on 3/17/15, but the energetic effects of their interaction will be felt through 2020!
I’ve already written extensively about the Uranus-Pluto square, but in a nutshell it’s the 60s Part Two. The entire world and everyone in it is affected by this potent energy of revolutionary transformation, but even from a US-centric perspective the parallels are obvious. War: Vietnam/the Middle East. Minority empowerment: women’s lib and black power/gay marriage. Drugs: LSD/marijuana legalization. The two decades have lots more in common as well: technological breakthroughs, an explosion of unfettered artistic creativity in all media, and a pervasive sense of electricity, unrest and new possibilities. And this is just a sampling of the effects!
On a personal level, I recommend that you release everything that has outworn its usefulness. Do your best to be guided and energized by the divine power within you. Express your authentic human self into the world. Follow your intuitive flashes. And serve others with your unique talents!

The revolutionary energy of the Uranus-Pluto square focuses more specifically into relationships, creativity and finances as a Venus-Uranus square ( 12°34′ Capricorn-12°34′ Aries) and a Venus-Pluto conjunction (12°46′ Capricorn) both occur on 12/20!
The Sun enters Capricorn on 12/21 at 6:03 PM EST, marking the winter solstice. This is the longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere. The Sun now radiates the energies of maturity, responsibility, productivity, good time management, and efficient planning and execution.
Capricorn New Moon
December’s New Moon follows hard upon the heels of the Sun’s sign change, just as it did in November. Less than three hours after the Sun enters Capricorn, the New Moon lines up on 12/21 at 8:36 PM EST (0°6′ Capricorn). New beginnings in all the Capricornian themes in the prior paragraph are supported.
Aspects
This lunation’s aspects give fresh energy to learning and communication (wide Mercury conjunction), as well as spiritual awakening practices and inspired creativity (Neptue sextile).
Sabian Symbol
This New Moon’s Sabian Symbol is, “An Indian chief claims recognition and power from the assembled tribe.” Is there some position of leadership or power that it’s time for you to step into or more fully embody?
Saturn enters Sagittarius on 12/23. (Saturn only changes signs about every 2-1/2 years, so it’s significant when he does.) Saturn in Sag can help you more productively structure your efforts in the areas of religion, philosophy, foreign travel and higher education. Saturn will return to Scorpio in the summer of 2015, then transit Sagittarius from the fall of 2015 through 2017.
Finally, a revolutionary approach to your learning and communication is supported in the days around Christmas with a Mercury-Uranus square (12°34′ Capricorn-12°34′ Aries) on 12/24 and a Mercury-Pluto conjunction (12°55′ Capricorn). May your new insights support your enjoyment of an especially happy holiday season!
Void-of-Course Moons
It’s best to avoid starting important new projects or making major purchases during these times. “Business as usual” is the best strategy for these periods, which occur when the Moon has made its last major Ptolemaic aspect but has not yet moved into the next sign.
