I took this picture of Maeikisala today (Feb 28) at lunch on her 51st birthday. It’s been 80 days since her stroke. She may not have gone around the world like Phileas Fogg, but she’s been on quite a journey nevertheless!
News of her recovery remains encouraging. Most importantly, she continues to gain incremental use of her right leg.
Just today, for example, Maeikisala walked up and down the three steps leading from our garage to our home for the first time since her stroke – even though there’s no handrail. And earlier this week she did various tasks around the house for 30-45 minutes … walking and standing continuously without using her walker at all. (All this might not seem like much to an able-bodied person, but they’re major milestones in her stroke recovery!)
Because she’s doing so well, we were able to enjoy our first post-stroke date in downtown Asheville today. We celebrated her birthday with a delectable lunch at Salsa’s Mexican/Caribbean Restaurant, followed by an amazing slice of low-sugar chocolate cake at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge.
The electromagnetic and red light therapies she’s receiving from Asheville healing maestro Lazlo Paule are making a big difference. And, of course, your prayers have made a huge difference since the beginning of her healing journey. Maeikisala sends you her love and gratitude – as do I.
