Mercury’s retrograde in Aquarius headlines the second half of January, encouraging reflection on what makes you special (just like everyone else!). The Sign of the Water-Bearer also hosts the Sun’s entry and a New Moon.
In other news, Mars stays busy aspecting outer planets (Pluto, Neptune and Chiron), an asteroid goddess Grand Trine peaks, and Venus tangles with Jupiter and Saturn.

Even the best of committed partnerships can rise to the next level with Uranus trine Juno (12°52′ Aries-Leo). If you make quiet time to receive intuitive insights in this area, you may find them surprisingly easy to implement.
1/18 (Sun)
No major astrology events.
1/19 (Mon)
Relationships, creativity and finances are amplified under an aspect between astrology’s two classic benefics: a Venus-Jupiter opposition (19°57′ Aquarius-Leo). Whatever’s positive in these areas can enjoy easy expansion, while challenges will likewise become more prominent. With Venus in Aquarius, be true to your authentic self in these areas and follow your intuitive flashes.
A strong desire to experience altered states may arise with Mars conjunct Neptune (5°55′ Pisces). This is an ideal time to dive into the bliss of divine connection and receive creative inspiration from your Muse.
1/20 (Tue)
The Sun enters Aquarius at 4:43 am EST. For the next month, put special emphasis on expressing your authentic self, following your intuitive flashes and serving others with your special gifts.
Aquarius New Moon #1
A New Moon occurs at 8:14 AM (0°8′ Aquarius). New beginnings in the previous paragraph’s Aquarian expressions are supported.
This New Moon is barely in Aquarius, occurring at 0°8′ with the Moon only a quarter-hour out of Capricorn. This sets the stage for a rare second Aquarian New Moon in February, and invites consideration of how the energies of Capricorn and Aquarius can be helpfully integrated. Adjacent signs are always birds of a different feather, since neither their modes or elements are naturally compatible. But a little creative thinking can go a long way in helping them work together harmoniously.
In this case, since divine intelligence is infinitely smarter than any human rationality, let Aquarius’ intuitive flashes set the agenda. Then let Capricorn’s industriousness and organizational skill work out the details.
Aspects
Service to a higher cause is supported by a Vesta conjunction, while a sextile from Saturn reinforces the Capricornian energy just mentioned. (Saturn rules Capricorn, and both the planet and the sign embody the same archetypal energy.)
Sabian Symbol
This New Moon’s Sabian Symbol is “An old adobe mission in California,” an example of a long-enduring spiritual structure. This can be seen as an earthly metaphor for the immortal consciousness which is your true identity. What you truly are will endure longer than any church, any earthly structure, or even the Earth itself. May you awaken to it soon if you haven’t already!
1/21 (Wed)
A lot of Aquarian energy got fired up with yesterday’s entry of the Sun into Aquarius and the Aquarius New Moon. This juju gets fired up even more powerfully – with a special dose of magic – as the Aquarian Sun quintiles Uranus (0°57′ Aquarius-12°57′ Aries). This is because both Aquarius and Uranus resonate with the energy of unique individuation, intuitive flashes and service to the collective.
Mercury Retrograde Begins
Another Mercury retrograde period begins today at 10:54 AM (17°5′ Aquarius) and lasts through 2/11. Mercury retrograde is always a good time for reflection and planning. It’s also ideal for completing projects already underway and making repairs. If possible, avoid starting new projects or making major purchases. This Mercury retrograde takes place entirely within Aquarius, so reflect on the Aquarian themes already mentioned.
1/22 (Thu)
Grand Trine: Juno-Pallas Athena-Uranus
A Grand Trine makes it easier to find a harmonious balance between the June Cleaver and Xena the Warrior Princess that live inside you. The equilateral triangle formed by Juno (June Cleaver), Pallas Athena (Xena) and Uranus began on 1/11, peaks today and ends on 2/6.
Everything in life has its appropriate time, whether it’s cooking the perfect family meal or vanquishing an archenemy on the field of battle. Let your intuitive flashes (Uranus) guide you as to how and when to express your urges toward domesticity (Juno) or warriorship (Pallas Athena).
1/23 (Fri)
Flowing, energized productivity is supported by a Sun-Saturn sextile (2°52′ Aquarius-Sagittarius). With the Sun in Aquarius, you may find it easier to fit your unique qualities into the consensual reality around you. (More and more people are waking up every day — sometimes even the ones you thought would never change!)
1/24 (Sat)

1/25 (Sun)
No major astrology events.
1/26 (Mon)
Inspiration on how to apply your brilliant ideas in practical ways is available with Mercury quintile Saturn (15°5′ Aquarius-3°05′ Sagittarius).
1/27 (Tue)
Venus transits Pisces today through 2/20. This supports creative inspiration, deepening your connection with the absolute peace that you are, and connecting with the divine essence in others.
1/28 (Wed)
Some people consider intuitive flashes to be divinely inspired, like text messages from God. Others have entirely secular and scientific explanations for these moments of brilliance. Whichever school of thought you subscribe to, these “eureka moments” are more easily available with Aquarian Mercury sextile Uranus (13°9′ Aquarius-Aries).
Vesta transits Aquarius today through 3/28, supporting your involvement in a higher cause that uniquely resonates with you.
1/29 (Thu)
No major astrology events.
1/30 (Fri)
The odds of experiencing challenge in your relationships, creativity and finances are increased with Venus square Saturn (3°23′ Pisces-Sagittarius). But you can turn this aspect to your advantage by stepping definitively into your authority in these areas. Saturn challenges those who have not stepped fully into their power, and rewards those who have!
Leadership, fighting the good fight and sexuality are smoothly energized by a Mars-Pluto sextile (14°10′ Pisces-Capricorn). With Mars in Pisces, spiritual warriorship, sacred sexuality and inspired action are specifically supported.
Your thinking cap might be humming under a Sun-Mercury conjunction (10°20′ Aquarius). Standard-issue logic and rationality are energized, but be sure to also leave plenty of room for those intuitive flashes!
1/31 (Sat)
Mars-Chiron conjunctions (15°10′ Pisces) tend to be challenging because they stir up all the unresolved psychological baggage that’s ready to be cleared. I recommend healing these issues as they arise with my healing invocation, breathwork, or any other quick and effective method that works well for you. Otherwise this heavy energy will just recoagulate and get stimulated again later — a cycle that repeats endlessly until you finally do the necessary healing work.
A more enjoyable effect of Mars-Chiron conjunctions is that they can energize your abilities as a mentor and healer. This is also a great time to seek mentoring and healing from others.
Void-of-Course Moons
It’s best to avoid starting important new projects or making major purchases during void-of-course Moons. “Business as usual” is the optimal strategy. Void-of-course Moons occur when the Moon has made her last major Ptolemaic aspect, but has not yet moved into her next sign.

Your Mercury retrograde dates are wrong.

I think I see the source of your confusion, George. My headline for this post is: “Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius: January 16-31 2015 Astrology Forecast.” This may have led you to believe I was saying that Mercury retrograde runs Jan. 16-31. But I state in the forecast that Mercury retrograde runs 1/21 thru 2/11, which I just double-checked. I apologize that you took my headline, which simply features the biggest event of the forecast, to be stating the Mercury retrograde period. As of Feb. 1, I will be restyling my headlines to avoid this type of confusion.
