Historically Potent New Moon!

The most powerful New Moon of 2026 – and one of the strongest New Moons ever! – aligns on 1/18 at 2:52 pm EST (28°43′ Capricorn).

This incredible energy can potently support any new venture!

Here’s why this New Moon carries once-in-a-lifetime power.

First, it features the conjunction, within 5⅙ degrees, of all five personal planets: Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate how amazing this is. It might be unprecedented!

The tightest previous all-personal-planets conjunction I could find was on 9/15/1186, when the personal planets were over twice as far apart (about 13 degrees). Could 1/18/2026 be the first time in history that the five personal planets have made such a tight conjunction?

This New Moon is one of this decade’s most concentrated energy portals. This is partly because it fuses the energies of all five personal planets—representing our identity, emotions, thoughts, values, and drive—into a single, intense focus. Will, feeling, mind, love, and action are all pointed in the same direction.

But there’s more. This Grand Stellium (a conjunction of five or more planets) will also conjoin Vesta and Pluto. And all seven planets will aspect Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune to form – get ready – a 10-planet Minor Grand Trine!

All this will happen during the Capricorn New Moon on 1/18.

Plus, the Moon will be “out of bounds” at a declination of -23°42’. An out-of-bounds planet has fewer internal restraints, which can lead to radical new possibilities. This wildcard energy can help you break through seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Pluto

I just mentioned Pluto’s association with wealth. Most people associate this with money and possessions. But wealth can be anything you value, even if it’s intangible. Whatever makes your life better qualifies as wealth. The more you know the specific kind of wealth you want, the easier it is for the universe to bless you with it!

Pluto also rules power.

This can be “service-to-self” power. This ravenously wants what it wants, and doesn’t care what harm it causes. Selfishness and greed trump everything else.

“Service-to-other” power has been modeled by people like Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King, Jr., Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Mother Teresa. Their power flowed from love, compassion and goodwill, and helped uplift others.

The “Gods of Change” Minor Grand Trine

The seven-planet Grand Stellium we just covered is in Pluto’s corner of the multi-year “Gods of Change” Minor Grand Trine. This is the most powerful astrology event of the decade!

The foundation of this aspect pattern is a trine and two sextiles connecting Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus. This world-shaking configuration lasts through mid-2030! Saturn is a temporary member through mid-April.

All these slower planets are potently energizing the Grand Stellium. Pluto is conjunct, Uranus is trine, and Saturn and Neptune are sextile.

Put simply, these slower planets massively supercharge all the previously described potentials of the Grand Stellium. Whatever you start, you’ll have strong wind in your sails!

The astrological energy also flows the other way, with the Grand Stellium juicing up the slower planets. Let’s explore those possibilities.

Neptune

Neptune’s positive possibilities include spiritual awakening, inspired creativity, and functioning in flow state. You can also work with dreams and cultivate deeper unconditional love and compassion.

Avoid Neptune’s dark side as much as possible. This includes substance abuse, addiction, aimless drifting, and excessive escapism. Also beware of deception, propaganda, and gaslighting.

Uranus

Upside Uranus can help you embrace your authentic self and shine it into the world where appropriate. You can act on your intuitive hits and serve with your special gifts and talents you most love to use. And you can harmoniously connect with your “tribe” of like-minded souls.

Downside Uranus can make you feel agitated, nervous, or jittery. His challenging effects can also include chaos, upheaval, and insanity.

This Minor Grand Trine offers all these possibilities, from the lowest to the highest. The consciousness you hold, and where you focus your attention and intention, will influence whether your experience is more challenging or euphoric.

Saturn

Saturn is conjunct Neptune in the center of this aspect pattern. He joined the Minor Grand Trine in April 2025, and will retain his temporary membership through mid-April of 2026.

Saturn brings challenge, delays, and obstructions where they’re needed for personal and collective growth. In his darker expressions, Saturn can be cold, calculating, and heartless. He can believe that the ends justify the means.

But Saturn can also help you be mature, wise, and responsible. He can help you “plan the work and work the plan” and manage your time well. And he can be a paragon of productivity!

His conjunction with Neptune adds additional possibilities. These include more effective Law of Attraction manifestation and a consistent experience of embodied awakening. This Saturn-Neptune conjunction also empowers the conscious dissolution of whatever has outlasted its usefulness.

Chiron and Eris

Yes! We also have Chiron and Eris squaring the five personal planets.

Chiron

Chiron is the wounded healer. His job is to catalyze old trauma when it’s ripe for release.

Fortunately, for most people, effective trauma healing is the royal road to accelerated spiritual awakening. I’ve seen it time and again in my work as a shaman. The bigger the trauma, once healed, the bigger the spiritual awakening that follows. And it happens automatically!

More About This New Moon

1186

Earlier, I mentioned that the tightest previous all-personal-planets Grand Stellium I could find was about 840 years ago, on 9/15/1186. The Sun, Moon, and all five visible planets clustered within about 13 degrees in Virgo and Libra.

Doomsday prophecies about this 1186 alignment sparked widespread panic across Europe and the Middle East. Many astrologers predicted a “universal flood and a mighty whirlwind” that would kill all humans. This obviously didn’t happen, so don’t buy into apocalyptic predictions this time.

But the 1186 Grand Stellium New Moon did spark big changes. It coincided with a constitutional crisis for the Crusader states, setting the stage for the loss of Jerusalem a year later. Also in 1186, the Byzantine Empire was forced to recognize the independence of Bulgaria and Serbia, following their successful revolt.

If history rhymes, the 2026 Grand Stellium could also set the stage for big political changes. You can help shape what this looks like by vividly imagining the new reality you want. You can also take whatever external actions feel appropriate.

From Capricorn to Aquarius

The current Grand Stellium extends through late Capricorn and early Aquarius. So this New Moon could act as a cosmic threshold between old outworn structures (Capricorn) and a revolutionary future (Aquarius), ushering in an extraordinary new reality.

We live in a complex, co-created multiverse, so this new reality might look different for each of us. Hold the vision of the one you want!

This Capricorn New Moon – as well as Saturn, which rules both Capricorn and Aquarius – calls for maturity, accountability, and endurance in whatever goals you set.

The influence of lunations normally lasts two weeks, but I expect this potent New Moon’s influence to last much longer. So it’s a great time to launch projects that need long-term stability.

This New Moon’s Sabian symbol is “A woman reading tea leaves.”

Saturn Sextile Uranus

The last of three Saturn-Uranus sextiles (27°33′ Pisces-Taurus) lines up on 1/20 at 12:19 am EST. It was previously exact in 2025 on 4/4 and 8/11, and its influence will remain through 4/16/26. This sextile will be in orb (close enough to connect) again 9/1/26 through 1/25/27.

This sextile is part of the Minor Grand Trine I discussed in my New Moon interpretation. But here I’ll be focusing only on the interactive potentials of these two planets.

Even though this is a soft aspect, it has both negative and positive potentials.

Negative Potentials

One-sided extremism can lead to unpleasant consequences. Note whether impulses to act spring from fear or life-affirming adventurousness.

Tipping into negativity may result in rude awakenings and lost freedom. You could also experience unexpected problems, disruptions, or delays. Be careful not to forget your ideals!

Positive Potentials

Responsible and balanced freedom can be created through careful and cautious change. This might involve incremental openings and awakenings. Methodically facing problems and finding solutions can demonstrate the liberating benefits of structure and routine. And when an intuitive hit calls you to action, get to work on it!

An inability to hold rigid positions or stay stuck permanently can lead to working out specific karmic problems. This process can give you unexpected rewards for your pain.

Death or destruction in one place can lead to rebirth elsewhere, reflected in the breakdown of outworn structures.

More Saturn-Uranus Thoughts

We’re now seeing all kinds of structures falling rapidly — governmental, business and personal. Those dismantling the existing structures may not realize it, but they’re making way for better and more conscious structures to rise!

Some dark, self-serving structures are rising. This is only fair, since the forces of darkness are also players in life’s great game. But as a lightworker, if you see an old structure going down, you can help create a more luminous reality in its place.

There’s no going back to “normal.” Do we really want to perpetuate ever-increasing division, hostility and dehumanization? Do we want to continue destroying the global environment we all need to survive? The only viable way forward, for us humans and everything else on earth, is to create a better reality.

Metaphysical Potentials

There’s one more Saturn-Uranus opportunity it’s important to explore.

Transcending time and causality lets you remain undisturbed by any extreme. These are just a few of the benefits of you functioning as conscious spirit awareness while manifesting in physical form.

The only way to transcend time and causality is to awaken to the part of you in a higher dimension, beyond time and causality. Likewise, you overcome an obsession with external physical security by connecting with the indestructible part of you beyond the physical world.

Once you experience the immortal part of you that can’t be harmed — your luminous soul — your human self relaxes. Even if your human body dies, you’re guaranteed all the incarnations you need for your soul journey.

Not only that, I believe that the game is rigged … and everybody wins. The finish line for every soul is ultimately the same: divine union. There’s simply nowhere else to go!

Neptune Enters Aries to Stay

Neptune enters Aries on 1/26 at 12:34 pm EST, starting a new 165-year journey through the zodiac.

He made an initial foray into the Sign of the Ram in 2025, 3/30 through 10/22, before returning to Pisces for a farewell visit. Now he’ll stay in Aries continuously for 12+ years, through mid-2038.

The 1/18 New Moon sets the stage for Neptune’s entry into Aries eight days later. This moves us from the energy of passive idealism (Pisces) to embodied vision and spiritual leadership (Aries). It will be easier to transform dreams into courageous action!

Neptune in Aries has both low and high potentials. Here are five pairs of contrasting possibilities. Obviously, I encourage you to manifest the high sides!

Low: A demoralizing sense of futility and pointlessness, coupled with weakness and lack of confidence, can lead to paralysis. This can result in feeling unprepared for life’s challenges. Unfocused or stalled willpower can lead to procrastination.

High: Embrace gentle and resilient strength as you cultivate a flexible approach to life. A soft ego and relaxed confidence can help you move effortlessly and smoothly. You can feel when being is better than doing. Trust your inner radar and sensitivity, following the path of least resistance to create change without arousing opposition.

Low: Misguided leaders or influencers can spread confusion. They may believe they have to blame others, wage holy wars, or hurt others to wake them up.

High: Foster synergy with others through compassionate action and enlightened non-action. Embrace the ideal of being in the world but not of it, acting without attachment to results. Serve the less fortunate humbly, energized by your passion and faith.

Low: Stealth and cunning can lead to backstabbing and treachery, with secret harmful actions and infiltration by hidden enemies. This can include subtle forms of aggression, including shamanic energy battles or dark magic.

High: Avoid the futility of war and conflict by transmuting aggression into peaceful actions. Consider imitating Gandhi’s tactic of neutralizing aggression through active pacifism and passive resistance.

Low: A feeling of guilt for having committed harmful actions in the past can lead to feelings of anguish, torment, or debilitation.

High: Call on the healing power of your own divinity. If your ego-based efforts don’t clear these challenging emotions, let your higher self or other divine allies do it for you. DIY techniques such as my free Healing Invocation can help.

Low: Fruitlessly pursuing spiritual awakening but never achieving it. This can feel like blindly groping through heavy fog, endlessly wandering with no clear sense of direction.

High: Pursue whole states of consciousness and dynamic ecstatic experiences. Stalk the absolute and enter the mystery. Paradoxically, as you sacrifice your ego to the Great Dissolver in the inner realms, your divinely transformed ego becomes a far more effective ally to help you carry out your earthly mission.

Continuing the paradox, you can simultaneously function as divine consciousness operating the human self, and as a seamless integration of human and divine.

Mars Conjunct Pluto

Mars conjoins Pluto on 1/27 at 6:01 pm EST (3°34′ Aquarius).

This is potentially explosive energy. Handled skillfully, it can help you jump to wonderful new levels. Handled poorly, all hell can break loose!

Because I discussed Mars and Pluto in my New Moon interpretation, you may notice some of the same ideas here.

Mars

On the high side, Mars can help you strive for a worthy cause, make new starts, enjoy mutually enriching sex, and be a successful entrepreneur. His dark side could push you toward anger, rage, violence, ill-advised impulsiveness, or harmful sexual behavior.

Pluto

Pluto has similarly extreme potentials, starting with wealth and power.

Most people associate wealth with lots of money and possessions. Pluto can expand beyond this to include other people’s money, joint ventures, and money created through passive investments. Wealth can be shared so that many benefit from it, or selfishly concentrated so that only one or a select few profit.

The concept of wealth can also be expanded to include anything, material or immaterial, that enriches your life.

Pluto also rules power. Power can be cultivated for the greater good, as demonstrated by Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King, Jr. It can also be used to ruthlessly dominate, control, and destroy, as demonstrated by tyrants such as Hitler and Stalin and aspiring autocrats such as Trump.

How do you work with wealth and power?

As lord of the underworld, Pluto also rules buried trauma, psychology, shadow work, and profound personal transformation.

So this Mars-Pluto conjunction is a great time to do emotional healing work. After 15+ years, my favorite DIY technique for this remains my free Healing Invocation. It’s amazing how fast, easy, and effective trauma healing can be when you delegate it to your higher self!

Sex is a theme shared by Mars and Pluto. Mars is more about the primal animal lust for sexual pleasure. But Pluto can elevate you into the divine bliss of sacred sex. No purely physical orgasm can compare with the sublime ecstasy of soul-blended erotic connection.

Pluto also rules occult practices. These include everything that can’t be perceived by the five senses, since occult fundamentally means “hidden.”

These include astrology, tarot, numerology, runes, mediumship, psychic abilities, and more. Those on the path of love and light strive to always practice the occult arts for the highest good of all.
