Two Grand Crosses featuring Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto and several other planets kick off 2017 with high intensity. A Cancer Full Moon also aligns with these revolutionary aspect patterns, amping up their power even more!
In the first half of January, we also have Mercury turning direct, Juno aspecting three slower planets, and much more!

1/1 (Sun)
You can more easily operate in “The Zone” – that flowing, timeless state of ease and optimal efficiency – with Mars conjunct Neptune (9°44′ Pisces). This conjunction also supports acting from a constant flow of intuitive guidance. And it’s awesome for sacred sex!
1/2 (Mon)
No major astrology events.
1/3 (Tue)
Venus transits Pisces today through 2/3. This placement supports a deeper relationship between your ego and your higher self, as well as enhanced creative inspiration. You can also merge your consciousness more easily with other beings and manifest abundance more easily.
Harmonious communication, especially in practical matters, is smoothly energized with Mercury sextile Venus (0°31′ Capricorn-Pisces). Creative productivity also gets a boost!
1/4 (Wed)
Let the golden-tongued orator within you revel in its full loquaciousness with Mercury quintile Mars (0°6′ Capricorn-12°6′ Pisces). This aspect can also bring inspiration to your thinking and writing.
Retrograde Mercury briefly revisits Sagittarius today (1/4) through 1/12. (It turns direct on 1/8.) This placement amplifies all flavors of learning and communication, and can more easily draw your attention to religion, philosophy and the meaning of life.
1/5 (Thu)
You can take committed partnerships to the next level, more smoothly and harmoniously than usual, with Uranus trine Juno (20°34′ Aries-Sagittarius). It’s also a great time to think outside the box regarding your important romantic, platonic and business connections. Are you receiving flashes of insight which, if implemented, could make them more wonderful?
This is the first of three aspects Juno makes with slower-moving planets during the next five days.
1/6 (Fri)
Make space for life-enhancing insights regarding your relationships, creativity and finances with Venus quintile Saturn (4°3′ Pisces-22°3′ Sagittarius).
1/7 (Sat)
Committed partnerships of all kinds can show their potentials for improvement as Chiron squares Juno (21°18′ Pisces-Sagittarius). If you get triggered, you may find my free Healing Invocation helpful in quickly releasing challenging emotions. To have more helpful and harmonious communication in challenging circumstances, check out the amazing book Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg. This square is also a great opportunity for either committed partner to act in a healing or mentoring capacity.
A Sun-Pluto conjunction (17°9′ Capricorn) is an invitation to deep personal transformation. The more you surrender everything that doesn’t serve you on all levels, the more the unimaginable power of the divine can fill and inspire you!
This conjunction is also part of two aspect patterns: a Sun-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square (12/31-1/16) and a Sun-Vesta-Ceres-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto Grand Cross (1/9-1/16).
1/8 (Sun)
Mercury Direct
Had enough of the Mercury retrograde that started on 12/19? No worries, it’s over today at 4:43 am EST (28°50′ Sagittarius).
Since most of the retrograde was in Capricorn, you can now start implementing any insights you gained during your reflections on maturity, responsibility, efficiency and good time management. Since the Moon is waxing — that’s important for new ventures — you can also move ahead with any contract signings or major purchases you delayed during Mercury Retrograde.
1/9 (Mon)
Aspect Pattern Bonanza: 1 Peaks, 2 Begin!
T-square Peaks: Sun-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto
The revolutionary effects of the Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square, described in my 12/21 Winter Solstice forecast, got kicked up a notch as the Sun joined the party. The Sun-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square they created started on 12/31, peaks today(1/9) and ends on 1/16.
Two Interrelated Grand Crosses Begin
Grand Cross Begins: Sun-Vesta-Ceres-Jupiter-Uranus
We begin our interpretation of this Sun-Vesta-Ceres-Jupiter-Uranus Grand Cross with Vesta. This asteroid goddess encourages the honing of your individual skills and talents, much like an athlete in training, then using them to joyfully serve others. Vesta can also represent sex magic: using the power of arousal and orgasm to empower your Law of Attraction work.
The Vesta-Jupiter square amplifies the power of this Vestan energy and puts it in the social sphere, which could include the Jupiterian realm of politics. The Vesta-Uranus square cheerleads your Vestan ventures in a way that uniquely fits you. Be sure to follow any intuitive flashes that pop in!
Ceres, another asteroid goddess, is the harvest goddess. Her presence can support an abundant outcome. She’s also associated with loss and sorrow, which could mean that even a successful end result may involve some emotional challenge. The Capricornian Sun adds the energy of discipline and endurance.
This Sun-Vesta-Ceres-Jupiter-Uranus Grand Cross begins today (1/9), peaks on 1/14 and ends on 1/20.
Grand Cross Begins: Sun-Vesta-Ceres-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto
This second Grand Cross simply adds Pluto to the previous one. This Grand Cross is four days shorter: it starts on 1/9, peaks on 1/13 and ends at 1/16.
Its basic meaning is the same as its sister Grand Cross. Pluto’s presence encourages the surrender of all that doesn’t serve you, and empowers all that does. A Plutonian presence is always helpful when you’re working to bring about significant change.
How Strongly is the Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square Affecting Your Chart?
The peaks of the Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square, active all the way through April, occur between 18° and 21° Libra. This means that sensitive points in your natal chart between 15° and 24° in any of the cardinal signs — Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn — will be most strongly affected.
1/10 (Tue)
Juno makes its third aspect to a slower planet today: a Saturn-Juno conjunction (22°29′ Sagittarius). Everything I said about the Juno-Chiron square on 1/7 applies here. Saturn, as always, will catalyze challenge to show you where you’ve veered off course from your soul purpose … in this case, in the context of any flavor of committed partnership. Saturn will also help you stabilize and build a more solid foundation wherever you’re on track.
Unto itself, a Sun-Uranus square (20°37′ Capricorn-Aries) encourages you to be your unique one-of-a-kind self, follow your intuitive flashes, and serve the collective with those special talents you most love to use. The Capricornian Sun might cause you to resist such a radical course of action … or could act as an efficient middle manager to fully implement the Uranian energies.
This square is part of three aspect patterns:
- Sun-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square (12/31-1/16)
- Sun-Vesta-Ceres-Jupiter-Uranus Grand Cross (1/9-1/20)
- Sun-Vesta-Ceres-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto Grand Cross (1/9-1/16)
1/11 (Wed)
T-square peaks: Sun-Jupiter-Uranus
A Sun-Jupiter-Uranus T-square, mentioned in my 12/31 forecast as a subset of the Sun-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square, peaks today. It started on 12/31 and ends on 1/22.
Strong and harmonious erotic energy is in the air with Mars sextile Pluto (17°17′ Pisces-Capricorn). With Mars in Pisces, sacred sex – the merging of the energy bodies as well as the physical bodies – is also juiced up.
This sextile also energizes nonsexual spiritual pursuits. In addition, it can help you step more fully into the role of the warrior, pioneer, athlete, or striver for a worthy cause.
The Sun makes two aspects today. A Sun-Chiron sextile (21°26′ Capricorn-Pisces) smoothly energizes mentoring and healing, especially in business or practical contexts.
A Sun-Jupiter square (22°9′ Capricorn-Libra) can make you feel larger than life. By all means celebrate this expansiveness, but be careful not to be excessively enthusiastic or put too many irons in the fire. The Sun’s placement in Capricorn can naturally moderate Jupiter’s expansive tendencies, and also help you put them to practical use.
This Sun-Jupiter square is also part of three aspect patterns:
- Sun-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square (12/31-1/16)
- Sun-Vesta-Ceres-Jupiter-Uranus Grand Cross (1/9-1/20)
- Sun-Vesta-Ceres-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto Grand Cross (1/9-1/16)
1/12 (Thu)
Cancer Full Moon
2017’s first lunation, a Cancer Full Moon at 6:34 am EST (22°27′ Cancer), is also one of the year’s strongest lunar events!
Any Cancer Full Moon is good for taking stock of how you’re doing in the areas of nurturing, healing and mothering. Family, home and the deep unconscious can also be up for release or adjustment.
Major Aspects
This Full Moon’s strength is mainly due to its alignment with the transformational Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square, which runs through April. I give an in-depth interpretation of this revolutionary T-square in my 12/21 Winter Solstice forecast. Rather than repeat so much information here, I invite you to read about the Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square there. I also interpret Ceres, another member of the Grand Cross lit up by this lunation, in that forecast.
Vesta is conjunct the Moon. To save you from excessive linking, I’ll drop in two paragraphs relating to her and Jupiter from my 1/9 forecast:
Vesta encourages the honing of your individual skills and talents, much like an athlete in training, then using them to joyfully serve others.
Minor Aspects
Piscean Mars and Chiron trine the Moon. This can make it easier to do any healing or shadow work that arises, and can also represent healers or mentors smoothly connecting with you.
Tightly conjunct Saturn and Juno quincunx the Moon. What adjustments can you make to deal with any challenges in your committed partnerships? Are there some that can benefit from a stronger structure? Are some better off released?
Sabian Symbol
This Full Moon’s Sabian Symbol is, “The meeting of a study group or literary society.” The main message I take from this is: you don’t have to do it all on your own. I’ve worked with so many clients who say that they tough out their challenges alone, even when those close to them offer their support.
It’s true that some study groups and literary societies are superficial and shallow, all head and no heart. But the best literature lays bare the existential challenges of being human, and some study groups focus on the things that really matter in life.
Find your tribe, those who share your concerns and are committed to supporting each other. The Aquarian age is about individuals uniquely expressing … as part of groups they resonate with. If you can’t find your peeps locally, connect with them online.
As I point out in my 2017 full-year forecast video, this year’s going to be intense. No matter how strong and capable you are, you’re probably going to want a little help from your friends!
Mercury transits Capricorn today (1/12) through 2/7. This supports serious thinking and well-structured communication. Thinking can be more conservative during this time, so beware of blindly clinging to the familiar when it’s time for a change!
Welcome to one of January’s softest, sweetest and most transcendent aspects: a Venus-Neptune conjunction (10°2′ Pisces). There are several ways to take advantage of this:
- deepen your conscious connection with your own divine essence
- become more sensitive to the divine energy in everyone and everything around you
- tune into the enhanced creative inspiration in the air, and express as much of it as you can
- use the Law of Attraction to manifest the financial abundance you desire
At the same time, get reality checks before making any significant relationship or money decisions. This aspect can have a rose-colored glasses effect, making it easier to see only what you want to see.

Void-of-Course Moons
It’s best to avoid starting important new projects or making major purchases during void-of-course Moons. “Business as usual” is the optimal strategy. Void-of-course Moons occur when the Moon has made her last major Ptolemaic aspect, but has not yet moved into her next sign.
